Pulses: CDN bulk pea shipments lag in January

Winnipeg, March 2 – Eston number three lentils fell by four
cents overnight to a range of 24 to 26 cents per pound,
according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Laird number three lentils
dropped by seven cents during that same period. They are now
listed at a price of 46 to 47 cents per pound.
Prices for green peas in North Dakota dropped by 25 cents
to a range of C$8.64-$8.97 per pound over the past week.

bulk peas slowed down somewhat in January. The CGC reports
137,800 tonnes of field peas were loaded during the month, which
was down 45 per cent from the same month last year and 37 per
cent from December.
According to prices from the Alberta Grain Commission,
prices for yellow peas on the Prairies bumped up slightly
yesterday and are going for C$272 per tonne in eastern Manitoba
to C$295 per tonne in northern Alberta.
Farmers in parts of northeastern Australia are reaping
gains from chickpeas this year, but the same can’t be said for
wheat. A report in The Sydney Morning Herald describes how some
farmers received prices of AU$900 per tonne for their chickpeas,
while wheat netted just AU$180 a tonne. According to the report,
one farmer said the prices he was netting for wheat were “hobby-
farming” type.
