Winnipeg, November 4 – Lentils prices are slowly creeping up across Western Canada. According to the Prairie Ag Hotwire, Laird #1s have increased in price by three cents per pound over the past week, and nine cents during the past month. Producers can expect to receive an average of 52.5 to 63.0 cents a pound at elevators.
Kabuli chickpeas (10mm) are hanging steady at 48 to 53 cents a pound.
Fababean growers in Western Canada are being advised to keep an eye out for chocolate spot (botrytis grey mould) in the next few years. According to a report in grainews.ca the disease can be particularly devastating for fababeans during wet years. Chocolate spot starts out by creating tiny reddish lesions on the plants. After that, defoliation often occurs and sometimes even lodging.
Prices for yellow peas continue to hang steady at elevators across Western Canada. According to the Prairie Ag-Hotwire, prices range between C$6.85 to C$8.00 per pound.
