June 20 (CNS Canada) – Beans have received a boost from climate change researchers with a new study that suggests if American consumers shifted entirely to edible beans away from beef, the United States could meet its emissions target by 2020.
A study published in the journal Climate Change stated beans provide similar nutrition to beef without the methane given off by cattle during digestion. As well, edible beans are more beneficial to the environment because they can convert nitrogen from the atmosphere into soil nutrients, the report stated.

Bean growers across the United States were closely watching for fallout following President Donald Trump’s trade pullback from Cuba.
