Winnipeg, August 23 (CNS) – Australian chickpeas are being threatened by extreme temperatures on the country’s east coast. According to a report in farmonline.com, temperatures soared into the mid-thirties (Celsius) in much of southern Queensland and New South Wales before plunging as low as -6°C within two weeks of each other. The crop was moisture-stressed to begin with.
Chickpea prices have improved slightly in India in the past few days due to growing speculation of a weak harvest in Australia. A report on rediff.com says import restrictions that were imposed before the year in India, have also helped keep prices aloft.

Laird X3 lentils fell five cents, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Bids are listed at 25 to 35 cents per pound.
Cranberry beans in Manitoba fell half a cent during the past week and are now going for 47 cents a pound.
Kabuli chickpeas (10mm) declined five cents last week and are now priced at 59 to 63 cents a pound.
Bids for green peas on the Prairies rose 25 cents last week and are listed at C$8.00 to C$8.75 per bushel.
