Winnipeg, November 17 – The Canadian Grains Commission has announced grading changes for fababeans and chickpeas. In a release, the agency says as of August 1, 2017, both pulses must have an ergot tolerance not exceeding 0.5 per cent. That tolerance level is consistent with other pulse crops in the official grading guide.
Green pea prices range from C$7.50 to as high as C$9.00 per
bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.85 to C$8.50 per bushel.
India has hiked the support price it pays farmers for growing lentils. The federal cabinet approved a 6.6 per cent increase in the minimum price to 1,625 rupees (C$24). The cabinet was also reportedly preparing to hike the rate for chickpeas too.
Prices for Laird #1 lentils continue to hold steady at 58 to 65 Canadian cents a pound at elevators across Western Canada, according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Prices for Richlea #1 lentils were also holding steady at 26 to 41 CDN cents per pound.
