Winnipeg, March 30 – India has given Canada an extension on
a dead-line that would have seen strict fumigation rules imposed
on Canadian pulse exports. A statement from Canadian Agriculture
Minister Lawrence MacAulay made on Thursday says India will
extend the fumigation deadline until June 30, 2017. The June 30
deadline will be based on the bill of lading date. The original
deadline was set for Friday.
Prices for kabuli chickpeas (10 mm) in Western Canada rose
five cents overnight, according to information from The Prairie
Ag Hotwire. Bids are now listed at 54 to 56 cents per pound.
Laird number one lentils inched higher by two cents and are
now in a range of 48 to 52 cents per pound.
Pinto bean bids increased by two to three cents overnight
to 39.5 cents per pound.
Export earnings for Australian chickpeas are expected to
fall by 42 percent, according to the March 2017 edition of
Agricultural Commodities. The volume was released today at
ABARES Outlook 2017. It credits the decline to lower production
and weaker international prices following the record levels of
last year.
