Winnipeg, April 18 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Monday, April 18.
– Canada exported 51,600 tonnes of peas and 700 tonnes of lentils during the week ended April 10, according to the latest data from the Canadian Grain Commission. Exports of both crops continue to run well ahead of the previous year’s level.
– Pulse prices continue to rise in India, with the latest inflation data out of the country showing a 34.45% rise in March. That’s the 15th straight month of double-digit inflation in pulses. By comparison, wholesale inflation in India was actually negative 0.85%.

– India’s government has imported 50,000 tonnes of pulses in the new fiscal year to date, with an additional 25,000 tonnes contracted, according to the country’s food ministry.
– Green pea prices in the C$9.00 to C$9.75 per bushel range are being reported in Western Canada. Meanwhile, top end yellow peas are going for as much as C$12.90 per bushel in some locations. Red lentil bids of 53 cents per pound now being reported in some locations. Meanwhile, number two large green lentils are hitting prices as high as 75 cents and number ones have topped 80 cents at some locations.
– Chickpea prices in Western Canada also remain strong, with large caliber Kabulis’s trading as high as 56 cents per pound.
