Winnipeg, Sept. 14 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Wednesday, September 14.
– Pulse production in India during the current kharif season is forecast to be up considerably compared to last year, due to a combination of increased acres and a better monsoon. The country’s agriculture ministry pegs pulse production at 8.2 million tonnes, which would be up 48% from the 5.5 million tonnes grown the previous year.
– Pulse production in the upcoming rabi season in India is expected to be up on the year as well, with the crop now forecast at 14.4 million tonnes by the Indian ag ministry.
– Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 46 cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Red lentils are bid at up to 29 cents per pound.
– Green pea prices range from C$6.80 to as high as C$7.75 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.00 to C$7.17 per bushel.
