Winnipeg, March 23 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Wednesday, March 23.
– Pulse shortages and weather concerns in India remain at the forefront of the global market, as traders continue to try and get a handle on the supply situation in the major pulse consuming country. An official with Pulse Australia estimated the shortage in India at anywhere from 4 million to 6 million tonnes, which was helping prop up lentil and chickpea prices in Australia.

– In its latest forecast, The India Meteorological Department is calling for heavy rains and hail in parts of central and northwest India over the next week, which may damage Rabi season crops, including chickpeas and wheat, that are nearing harvest.
– Green pea prices in the C$8.50 to C$9.75 per bushel range are being reported in Western Canada. Meanwhile, yellow peas have eased off of their highs, with top-end bids losing about 50 cents over the past week to come in at C$14.00 per bushel in some locations. Red lentil bids of 51 cents per pound now being reported in some locations. Meanwhile, number two large green lentils are hitting prices as high as 75 cents and number ones have topped 80 cents at some locations.
– Chickpea prices in Western Canada also remain strong, with large caliber Kabulis’s trading as high as 47 cents per pound.
