Pulses: North Dakota investing in special crops

Winnipeg, Oct. 20 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Thursday, October 20.

– North Dakota’s government has awarded US$2.3 million to promoting and developing special crops in the state, including pulses.

– India’s central government is looking to import 90,000 tonnes of channa dal (chickpeas) in order to boost domestic supplies. The government also renewed calls requesting state governments crack down on pulse hoarders.

– Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 52 cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Red lentils are bid at up to 33 cents per pound.

– Green pea prices range from C$6.80 to as high as C$8.00 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.00 to C$7.50 per bushel.

– Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 53 cents per pound in Western Canada.
