Winnipeg, May 5 – Producers in southern Saskatchewan have begun seeding pulses, according to the province’s latest crop report.
Commercial pea stocks in Canada are up over the same time last year. According to Statistics Canada’s stocks report, the total amount of dry pea stocks in Canada is 1.70 million tonnes, compared to 1.35 million tonnes last year.
Brazil’s dry bean crop has been damaged by frost, according to a report by CanarioMT.com. A survey by the Brazilian Institute of Beans found losses in four municipalities. So far, local prices for Carioca (pinto) beans have held steady but that could change, warn analysts.
Pinto beans on the Prairies are also keeping firm at 39 cents per pound. However, farther south they are down slightly. Bids for pintos in North Dakota fell by half a cent in the most recent report to 39.2 cents per pound.
Bids for laird number one lentils on the Prairies are holding steady at 48 to 52 cents per pound, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
