Pulses: Prairie lentil bids on the move

Winnipeg, January 19 – Prices for lentils in Western Canada are chopping around. Eston number one lentils dipped two cents overnight to fall into a range of 59 to 66 cents per pound. Eston number two lentils rose by three cent and are now 55 to 65 cents per pound. Bids for crimson number three lentils increased by one cent and are going for 20 to 28 cents per pound, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
Bids for green peas fell by 25 cents overnight and are now locked in a range of C$8.22-$9.25 per pound.

Black beans in Manitoba declined by one cent overnight and are now drawing average bids of 38 cents per pound.
Yellow pea prices in North Dakota dropped by C$1.50 over night and are now going for C$9.13-$10.43 a bushel.
According to a report by The Great Falls Tribune, cash receipts for peas, beans and lentils in Montana surpassed US$185 million in 2015. That is more than the combined receipts from the state’s durum and potato harvests. Total production of lentils in the US during 2016 was 560,000 tonnes. Approximately 335,000 of that came from Montana.
