Winnipeg, December 12 – Laird #1 lentils in Western Canada increased by one cent overnight, with bids ranging from 62 to 68 cents per pound, according to data from Prairie Ag Hotwire. Eston #2 lentils rose 2 cents per bushel to settle at a range of 50 to 62 cents per pound.

Yellow peas in North Dakota have risen by 25 cents on the week with a range of C$7.90 to C$10.20 per bushel.

Officials with Pulse Canada are closely monitoring the looming deadline on fumigation of pulses bound for India. According to The Western Producer, India has a strict policy that all pulses must be fumigated at the point of origin. However, Canada typically gets exemptions on that requirement due to the extreme cold. A minimum temperature of 21 C is required for effective fumigation. The exemption has been in place since 2004 but the current extensions runs out on March 31. In order for ships loaded with pulses to know they won’t get turned around, officials say India should notify them by January 15.
