Winnipeg, November 14 – Lentil prices continue to slowly creep up across Western Canada. According to the Prairie Ag Hotwire, Laird #1s have increased in price by two cents per pound over the past week, and 11 cents during the past month. Producers can expect to receive an average of 56.5 to 65.0 cents a pound at elevators.
Kabuli chickpeas (10mm) are hanging steady at 48 to 53 cents a pound.
Green pea prices range from C$7.50 to as high as C$9.00 per
bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.85 to C$8.50 per bushel.
Red lentils have been a surprise mover on the charts, largely due to quality problems among much of the crop.
The managing partner of Canpulse Foods Ltd, says despite a lack of destination demand, short-covering has pushed up prices.
Spot prices for number 2 crimson lentils are about 27 to 36 cents per pound, according to data from Prairie Ag Hotwire.
