Pulses: Saskatchewan pea, lentil harvests make good progress

Winnipeg, September 9 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Friday, September 9.

– Unpredictable lentil crops in Canada could potentially unsettle the market, with yields and quality ranging from excellent to very poor, according to reports.

– Canada has exported 154,000 tonnes of peas for the week ending September 4, according to the Canadian Grain Commission.

– Saskatchewan producers have made good progress with harvest and now have 85 per cent of field peas and 65 per cent of lentils in the bin, according to the province’s weekly crop report.

– Top end yellow pea prices rose seven cents to sit at C$7.18 per bushel, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire. Green pea top prices remained steady at C$7.75 per bushel.

– Desi chickpea prices in Western Canada remain steady, trading at 31.0 cents per pound, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire.
