Winnipeg, Aug. 28 (CNS Canada) – Canadian pea and lentil production are expected to be down on the year when Statistics Canada releases its first survey-based estimates on the size of the 2017 crop on August 31. However, quality is expected to be up considerably, which may limit the impact of the smaller crops on exports.

Pea production is forecast at 3.4 million to 4.0 million tonnes, which would compare with the 4.8 million tonnes grown in 2016. The lentil crop is estimated at 1.9 million to 2.8 million, which compares with 3.2 million the previous year.
