Pulses: South African producers to seed fewer edible beans

Winnipeg, October 28 – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on October 28.
– South African farmers are expected to seed fewer acres of edible beans this year, in favour of other commodities like corn. Acreage projections show about a 3,500 drop from last year’s 85,000 acres.

– Washington State University, in conjunction with the University of Idaho, is offering a pulse processing course, which will teach students to process the commodity for food use. The course is expected to run annually.

– Western Canadian spot prices for cranberry beans are about C$0.45 per pound, Prairie Ag Hotwire said on Friday.
