Pulses: Ukraine’s pea crop highest in 15 years

Winnipeg, August 4 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Thursday, August 4.

– Ukraine is expected to grow its largest pea crop in last 15 years, according to the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club. In 2016, the gross pea production is expected to reach 752,000 tonnes, almost double what was recorded in 2015.

– Wet weather is threatening lentil crops in Saskatchewan with yield loss and potential crop abandonment, according to reports. Excess moisture could result in a 10 to 15 per cent reduction of yield overall.

– Navy beans in Manitoba rose 1 cent to 34 Canadian cents per pound, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire.

– Large calibre kabuli chickpeas saw a 1 cent drop in the last week to 53 Canadian cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire. However, smaller 7 mm calibre kabuli chickpeas jumped 17 cents to 42 Canadian cents per pound.
