Winnipeg, June 12 – Lentil acreage in the US is on the rise. According to the USDA, 1,055,000 acres of lentils will be planted in 2017. That compares to 933,000 acres in 2016.
The Northarvest Bean Growers Association in Minnesota is raising a warning about proposed changes to the North American Free Trade Agreement. Mexico takes in 35 percent of US dry beans annually, making it the top export market for the US. The association worries any disruptions to that flow could cause serious problems for the trade.
Laird X3 lentils dropped five cents according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Bids are now listed at 24 to 30 cents per pound.
Bids for kabuli chickpeas (10mm) across Western Canada are holding steady. Prices are now listed at 69 to 70 cents a pound.
Yellow peas on the Prairies are locked in a range of C$7.95 to C$9.75 per bushel.
In North Dakota, yellow peas rose 25 cents last week and are now going for C$7.68 to C$9.09 a bushel.
