Winnipeg, Nov 12. – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Thursday morning, November 12.
– According to Global Commodity Service Nideria, prices for domestic chickpeas in Australia are on the rise due to the excessive wet weather that has been plaguing parts of the country.
– The United States is ramping up its pea production, according to the USDA. In its latest crop report the agency pegs dry pea production for 2015/16 at 886,860 tonnes, up from 778,140 tonnes last year. The USDA projects lentil production at 241,490 tonnes, up from 152,720 tonnes last year.

– The Global Pulse Industry is celebrating the launch of the International Year of the Pulses. This week, the United Nations officially introduced 2016 as the year for the celebration, at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
– Despite efforts by the Indian government to keep prices down. The cost of lentils in India is reportedly on the rise. It was earlier this month the government began raiding merchants it suspected of hoarding pulses prior to the start of the Diwali holiday which began on Wednesday. Thousands of tonnes of pulse crops were seized during those raids and have started being auctioned off around the country.
