Winnipeg, Sept. 13 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Tuesday.
– The USDA is looking to purchase 92,000 hundredweight of dry peas and lentils, and an additional 1,300 hundredweight of great northern beans for export, according to a report from Northarvest Bean Growers Association.
– The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) pegged the world’s Food Price Index in August at 165.6 points, which was the highest level in over a year.
– Pea production in France is down on the year, despite an increase in acres, as poor weather cut into yields, according to reports out of the country.
– Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 46 cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Red lentils are bid at up to 29 cents per pound.
– Green pea prices range from C$6.80 to as high as C$7.75 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.00 to C$7.00 per bushel.
