It’s been another banner year for the the Proud to Bee a 4-H’er initiative.
The 2018 edition of the program saw 135 4-H clubs from across the country participating and about 15,000 seed packets distributed.
“It is wonderful each year to see the level of excitement and engagement our members have with this initiative,” said 4-H Canada CEO Shannon Benner, noting 44 per cent of clubs were first-time participants.
The program, supported by Syngenta Canada and now in its fifth year, creates bee-friendly habitats while helping 4-H’ers learn all about the fascinating work of bees and the importance of having healthy pollinator populations.
In the past five years, more than 140,000 seed packets have been planted by 4-H members across the country. Each participating club receives 100 packets of a pollinator seed mix and if they choose to sell seed packets, keeps all of the sales revenue for club activities.
Participants are urged “to share the buzz” through Facebook (using a 4-H Canada tag) or on Twitter and Instagram (tagging @4HCanada, @syngentacanada and #ProudToBeeA4Her). Photos, comments, and updates can be emailed to [email protected].
