The Canadian Cattle Identification Agency is reminding producers its tag store offers “competitive prices and all approved tag brands and breed-specific beef tags… and ordering directly allows CCIA to increase data integrity and traceability information chains.”
However, the agency’s database (the Canadian Livestock Tracking System) and its tag webstore are run independently, and so an account could be current in one system, but not necessarily in the other.
Producers are encouraged to make sure both accounts have updated contact info and their Premises Identification number. The PID number is needed for reporting the receipt or departure of animals and under new rules expected next year, will also be needed to buy tags.
