Two Albertans in the Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture competition finished as second runners-up in the event showcasing youth ages 11 to 24 with a passion for agriculture.
This year’s event was a virtual affair and competitors entered a short video instead of attending in person at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. Topics included a look at how the pandemic affected agriculture, food waste and security, and climate change.
Christopher Mills from Taber and Alyson Katerenchuk, who grew up in Smoky Lake County, had won the Alberta competition with speeches on the first two topics (reprinted in the Alberta Farmer this summer). Erica Li of Toronto won the senior event while Manitoba’s Brooklyn Piasta won the junior event.
