Alberta Barley’s senior leaders are staying on as the farm group heads toward amalgamation with Alberta Wheat.
Following its AGM earlier this month, the organization said Acme producer Tara Sawyer is staying on as chair and Roy Newman, who farms in the Blackie area, will continue to serve as vice-chair.
“During this critical time period of transitioning into one commission by the end of our fiscal year, the board understood the importance of maintaining leadership stability,” Sawyer said in a release.

The two cereal groups are aiming to complete their merger by July 31 and will initially have a 12-person board with six wheat directors and six barley directors.
Also joining the Alberta Barley board is Derwent producer Clint Jacula representing Region 4.
