With harvest mostly complete, dryland yields were running about six per cent above the 10-year-average, although that varied considerably across Alberta.
Aggregate yields for the five major crops (wheat, barley, canola, peas and oats) were just slightly below the 10-year average in the south and northwest. They were seven per cent higher in the northeast, nearly nine per cent higher in the central part of the province and more than 15 per cent higher than the 10-year average in the Peace, according to provincial estimates as of Oct. 4, when 96 per cent of harvest was complete.

The average canola yields province-wide were 38.2 bushels an acre, and most of the province was close to that except the south (30.1 bu./ac.) Spring wheat came in at 52.9 bu./ac., with the south again trailing (41.2) and the central area well above that (63). The barley average was just under 75 bu./ac. with the central and northwest regions well above that and the south well below.
