Chlormequat warning for all barley uses

Chlormequat — the active ingredient in the plant growth regulator product Manipulator — has been given a Yellow/Be Informed rating in Keep it Clean’s product advisory listing for barley, whether it’s sold for malt, food or feed.

Previously it had a Green/Acceptable rating except for use on malting barley. “Growers should talk to their grain buyer before using chlormequat… as treated crop may not be accepted,” Keep It Clean said in a release.

There are no market restrictions on using chlormequat on oats or wheat, said the organization, a joint initiative of the national cereals, pulse and canola organizations.

Beware giving horses too much iron

Horses consuming too much iron through diet or well water risk health problems like laminitis. Mineral testing forage and water is good practice for owners.
