The Alberta Wheat Commission and Canterra Seeds have launched a new wheat variety. AAC Crossfield, which will be available in spring, is the first variety created under their public, private, producer partnership (4-P).
The high-yielding variety has short, strong straw that is well suited for high inputs and/or under irrigation and has improved milling and baking quality. The 4-P program, which will see $3.4 million invested over five years, is aimed at creating improved CPSR wheat varieties, Alberta Wheat said in a news release.
Under the agreement, Alberta Wheat will receive a share of royalties on new varieties resulting from the program that will be used for future CPSR research and development.
