WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar dropped below the 74 United States cent mark on Monday.
The loonie was at US$0.7381 or US$1=C$1.3548, down from Thursday’s close. The Bank of Canada (BoC) did not post its exchange rate on Friday due to Good Friday.
Meanwhile, the United States Dollar Index gained 0.54 of a point at 102.63.
Crude oil was down despite traders navigating planned production cuts by OPEC+ members starting in May, as well as the resumption of crude oil exports from northern Iraq. Brent crude oil declined US$0.29 to US$84.83 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) shed US$0.23 at US$80.47/barrel.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index added 1.72 points to 20,198.41.
Gold fell US$19.70 per ounce to US$2,006.70.
