Cattle futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange were mostly higher on Monday, although the nearby October live cattle contract settled with small losses at the final bell.
The October live cattle contract lost 0.175 cents per pound at 235.800 cents while the December contract was up 0.125 cents at 237.575 cents.
October feeder cattle futures were up by 1.275 cents per pound at 359.175 cents per pound.
Indonesia has approved 17 new Brazilian meat packing plants to export beef to the country, reported Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry. A total of 38 Brazilian meat packers can now sell products to Indonesia.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed on the day, with choice boxes down $1.07 at $409.69 per hundredweight and select boxes up $0.15 at $385.34.
Lean hog prices were down 0.875 cents per pound in the October contract at 95.150 cents.
