– Richard Branson, the billionaire founder of The Virgin Group of companies, went into space on Sunday. Branson and five crewmates from his Virgin Galactic space-tourism company reached an altitude of 88 kilometres over New Mexico for the adventure which only lasted a few minutes. Branson had been in competition with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla founder Elon Musk over who would become the first to go into space. Bezos plans on riding his own rocket into space on July 20, the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

– A report from the United Nations released earlier today reported that the number of undernourished people worldwide increased by approximately 768 million last year, or roughly 10 per cent of the world’s population, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also estimated that on current trends, the UN’s sustainable development goal of zero hunger by 2030 will fall well short by 660 million people.
– Leon Charles, the chief of Haiti’s national police service, announced Sunday it had arrested a man who is alleged to have aided the individuals suspected of assassinating Haitian president Jovenel Moise. The police found several items in the home of Christian Emmanuel Sanon, the man who was arrested, including a hat with the logo of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, 20 boxes of bullets and four Dominican Republic license plates.
