– For the fifth straight day, the number of new COVID-19 cases in India reached a record-high on Monday with 352,991 newly identified as having the virus. Over that same period, there have been 2,812 new deaths. Yesterday, the United States announced it was temporarily lifting a ban on sending raw materials for vaccines to India. U.S. officials also announced the country will send medical equipment and protective gear for India’s front-line workers.

– Canada will receive shipments totalling 1.9 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week, the federal government announced. More than one million doses from Pfizer-BioNTech, 650,000 shots from Moderna and the first 300,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine will be sent. However, there will be no doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine despite the National Advisory Committee on Immunization expanding age eligibility to 30 and over for the shot.
– Dock workers at the Port of Montreal plan to go ahead with a strike this morning, disrupting business at Canada’s second-largest port. Meanwhile, the federal government will draft a notice paper in an attempt to expedite back-to-work legislation. A bill is expected to be tabled by Labour Minister Filomena Tassi by Wednesday. “Putting forward this notice is our government’s least-favoured option. We believe in the collective bargaining process,” Tassi said in a string of tweets on Sunday. “However, the government must act when all other efforts have been exhausted and a work stoppage is causing significant economic harm to Canadians.”
