Producers are concerned the new laws will give big corporations too much power.

Thousands of Southern Californians were without power on Thanksgiving as Edison International switched off the power to reduce wildfire risk. Almost 9,000 customers north and east of Los Angeles were still without power in the early Friday hours. The company is considering expanding the blackout to more than 100,000 homes and businesses due to wildfire warnings, as windstorms are popping up throughout the region.
Surging worldwide COVID-19 cases have caused many shoppers to take their Black Friday shopping online, though some deal hunters are expected to show up to brick-and-mortar stores. Market analysts expect the majority of this year’s purchases to be made online. Lisa Hutcheson, managing partner at consulting firm J.C. Williams Group, said some shoppers may take advantage of today’s sales to “stock up and hunker down for the winter.”
