Alberta poultry producers have until the end of February to sign up for the 2002 edition of AgriStability.

The deadline for the income stabilization program was extended because of avian influenza outbreaks, the provincial government said. There have been 60 operations (commercial and non-commercial) in the province infected, with 1.4 million domesticated birds “impacted.”

Many poultry operations have suffered substantial losses, the province said in a news release.

Fostering reconciliation one farm at a time

The Treaty Land Sharing Network has grown slowly throughout its first year in Alberta, but landowners are starting to get on board.

“For late participants, any payments — including interim payments — are reduced by 20 per cent,” the release stated.

Although farmers in the supply managed sector don’t generally sign up for AgriStability, it may be worthwhile in this situation.
