Rains have improved the outlook for wheat crops in top European Union producers France and Germany, following spring droughts, and now sunshine is needed, crop analysts said on July 12. Prospects for the wheat harvest in Britain, however, continue to deteriorate as dry weather further stresses crops in the EU’s No. 3 producer. “It’s not a great crop but it’s no longer looking disastrous like at the end of May,” said Alexandre Marie, analyst with grains consultancy Offre &Demande Agricole (ODA), referring to the French crop. “Conditions in June were really favourable for wheat.”
