Dehulled canary seed for human consumption is “becoming available” for food processors and consumers, but under a new name – alpiste.
That’s the Spanish name for the specialty grain which is gluten-free and “packed with protein,” says a new website created by the Canary Seed Development Commission of Saskatchewan.
Although it’s been an approved food for several years, the launch of alpistecanada.ca comes as more suppliers began offering products such as dehulled seed and flour.
