Bin-busting canola yields come to Alberta

Five Alberta canola producers were winners in DuPont Pioneer’s 2015 yield contest.

Saskatchewan producer Florian Hagmann claimed top spot with 116 bushels per acre on his plot and more than 100 bu./ac. on the field using Pioneer seed.

The Alberta winners were Jim Herder (Sylvan Lake, 84.3 bu./ ac., second spot), Ron Krywko (Sturgeon County, 81.3 bu./ac., third spot), Ridgevalley Colony (Crooked Creek, 69.2 bu./ac.), Arnold Beusekom (Fort Macleod 63.6 bu./ac.), and Kevin Taschuk (Two Hills, 69.0 bu./ac.).

The top finisher in the corn competition was Manitoba farmer Bernie Toews with 200.8 bu./ac. The winners get a trip for two to the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier in Ottawa in March.
