Cereals Canada has resumed its in-country training program after a pandemic-forced suspension of nearly three years.
In September, a team of technical experts travelled to Nairobi for a training workshop with 14 millers and mill staff from six African countries.
Along with presentations, the workshops feature hands-on activities in analytical testing, milling, blending and baking with Canadian wheat. All the activities were specifically designed to target the unique needs of millers from this region.

Canadian wheat exports (mostly western red spring) to sub-Saharan Africa have increased by approximately 500,000 tonnes from 2012 to 2020. They were driven by population growth in Nigeria, Canada’s largest wheat customer in the region.
Typically Canadian wheat is blended “with lower strength, lower priced wheats of other origins.”
