Del Bonita producer Sheila Hillmer has been appointed vice-chair of Alberta Beef Producers following the resignation of Jason Hale, the province’s new deputy minister of agriculture.

Hillmer became an ABP delegate four years ago and has been on the board since then. She is also one of the organization’s representatives on the board of the Canadian Cattle Association and an account manager for Elanco Canada.

In an ABP release, Hillmer said she is most passionate about succession and sustainability.

“Sustainability means to me: succession for my boys and others in the next generation, profitability and environmental stewardship,” Hillmer said in the release. “Environmental issues are top of mind now, and we’ve got to leave this world better than we found it.”

ABP will choose its 2023-24 executive at its AGM in Red Deer at the end of February.
