Responding to an industry shortage of entry-level employees with the training necessary to meet the demands of the veterinary medical field, Olds College says it will begin offering its new Veterinary Technical Assistant program Jan. 1, 2012.
The 15-week program will consist of four courses. Upon completion, students will have the training necessary to be employed in veterinary clinics, animal shelters, boarding facilities, and pet stores. Students will learn how to safely handle and restrain animals that are being cared for in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, boarding or pet facility with a primary focus on basic husbandry of cats and dogs. Students will also learn about common procedures performed on small animals in a veterinary setting and learn how to assist veterinarians and animal health technicians.
Enrolment for the program is already underway with approximately one-third of the available spots filled. For more information visit www.oldscollege.ca.
