The 2015 Organic Beef Mentorship program is open for applications.
“Organic Alberta offered the program last year with four pairs of mentors and mentees,” said Melisa Zapisocky, livestock manager with Organic Alberta. “The program was a big success and we’ve decided to offer it again this year.”
Under the program, selected transitioning producers, including those considering organic certification, will be paired with experienced organic producers. Participating mentees do not have to be certified organic at the time of the mentorship.
The mentorship program includes a site visit by the mentor to the mentee’s farm. Mentors are paid for up to eight hours of their time (plus mileage) to provide one-on-one coaching. Mentees pay a $100 fee.
The program runs until Dec. 31, but Zapisocky said she hopes to get participants in place over the summer.
