Four Alberta organizations have received donations from Canterra Seeds, a farmer-owned seed company that celebrated its 25th anniversary during the past year.

Ten organizations (nominated by seed growers who have shares in the company as well as farmers) were given $2,500, with some receiving matching amounts from those who nominated them.

The Alberta organizations are:

  • The Hospice Society of Camrose, which has programs to assist people in times of grief and palliative care.
  • The La Glace Ag Society, which is supporting construction of a regional recreation centre in the community. It received additional funding from Scenic Heights Farms to bring the total to $66,369.
  • The Wrentham Volunteer Fire Department for equipment replacement and volunteer training, with Eliason Farms matching the $2,500 grant.
  • The Three Hills Health Care Auxiliary Society for buying equipment for the Three Hills Health Care Centre, with Penwest Seeds matching the $2,500 grant.

Six organizations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan also received donations.

Canterra Seeds was founded in 1996 by nine Prairie seed growers (three per province) and now has more than 150 seed grower shareholders.
