Subsidies available for student summer jobs

There are a few days left to apply for the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

The program will pay qualifying businesses (including farms and agribusinesses) up to 75 per cent of the minimum hourly wage to provide summer jobs for people between age 15 and 30. Criteria include having 50 or fewer employees and providing quality work experiences.

Last year, Ottawa paid 100 per cent of summer employees’ salaries, up from 50 per cent the year before. But similar to last year, workers can stay on the job until late February. They can also be hired for part-time work. The government will also fund up to 120,000 student jobs in 2021, up from 80,000 last year.

Visit the ‘Funding: Canada Summer Jobs’ page at the Government of Canada website to learn more. The deadline for applying is Jan. 29.
