MINIATURE DONKEY SHOWCASE
Ever met a Miniature Donkey? These little Jennets and Jacks have a ton of personality, and their easy-going, gentle nature makes them great pets. Top breeders in the industry will be on hand from Thursday, July 7 through Sunday, July 10 to answer questions while you get to know their four-legged companions. The Miniature Donkey Showcase is located in the Agriculture Barns; demonstrations will take place in the Northern Lights Arena and the Big Top.
HORSE HAVEN
Discover horse breeds found throughout Alberta, and learn which activities these equine athletes are really good at. There will be 16 breeds on display at Horse Haven Stables, located at the north end of the Agriculture Barns, in an open western setting from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Itching to own a horse? These light horse breeds can also be seen in action daily in demonstrations in the Big Top and Northern Lights Arena. Kids will enjoy the activity book showcasing the breeds, and can take them home for colouring fun!

DRAFT HORSE TOWN
Heavyweight history will be in harness at this year’s Calgary Stampede. In its second year, Draft Horse Town, July 8-17, pays homage to the mighty “draft horse” and the significant role it played in building western Canada. Guided by their human counterparts, the “draft horse” breeds – Belgians, Clydesdales, Percherons, and Shires – built the roads, pulled the wagons, carriages and firefighting equipment, hauled the dirt and rock from building sites and plowed the fields for planting crops. Draft Horse Town is an engaging venue that offers Stampede visitors a slice of living history, plenty of hands-on activities and exhibits, and a close-up look at these magnificent beasts in action. Draft Horse Town is located on Saddledome Lane, just south of the Saddledome and north of the Agriculture Building.
CANADIAN NATIONAL MINIATURE HORSE SHOW
Miniature horses will be providing maximum entertainment during the three-day Canadian National Miniature Horse Show. The competition, July 12 to 14 in the Victoria Pavilion, Northern Lights Arena and the Big Top, features two separate shows approved by the American Miniature Horse Association, and myriad classes including hunter/ jumper, obstacle, halter, in-hand jumping, roadster, pleasure driving, log drag and more. The Canadian National Supreme Halter Champion will be awarded on the final day of the show.
HEAVY HORSE PULL
The Heavy Horse Pull is an exciting, action-packed event featuring true workhorses. The Stampede Heavy Horse Pull is Canada’s premier pulling competition, with teams arriving from across North America to vie for top honours. From Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 17 under the Stampede’s Big Top, teams in three different weight classes will pull more than five times their body weight a distance of 14 feet. .
