There’s an art to brewing the perfect cup of coffee, and Teri Heck has perfected it.

“It’s such an important part of most people’s day, but people don’t really take the time to figure out how to make it properly,” said the owner of Profound Coffee. “There are some simple tricks and tips to get the best out of your coffee.”

First, start with high-quality water.

“You’ve got to have good water to get good coffee,” said Heck. “If your water tastes good, it will probably be OK to brew coffee with.”

Next, invest in a coffee grinder and grind your own beans (and then brew within 15 minutes).

“And if you really want to geek out, get a scale. Then you can get your ratios of grounds and water right.”

And finally, try not to burn your tongue.

“You can’t taste the flavour of coffee when it’s hot. You’ve got to let it cool.”
