Drought Continues In China Sugar Area

Reading Time: < 1 minute

China s Agriculture Ministry said some 3.23 million hectares of crops were suffering from ongoing drought conditions in the country s southwest, the main sugar-growing region, with no let-up in the dry, hot weather. The lingering drought has prompted analysts to estimate the country s sugar deficit will widen next year amid low state sugar reserves. But the drought has caused limited damage to the country s autumn grain harvest, most of which is in other areas of the country not affected by drought, the ministry said. Reuters
