Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC) closed its doors on March 1 due to lack of finances. The organization was started in 1993 by Alberta livestock producers.
Over 30 years, AFAC developed into the collective voice of the livestock industry on matters of livestock welfare and allowed the industry to work together to advance and promote responsible livestock care. Work is underway to transition current activities and resources, including the ALERT line, to other partners.
In an online statement, the group noted that, “AFAC has been hit hard in recent months, including a lack of government funding.” It said the board concluded that closing was the “responsible action to follow.”
