Mike Ammeter is the new chair of the Canadian Canola Growers Association. The Sylvan Lake producer, who is a former chair of Alberta Barley, was elected to a two-year term by his fellow board members.

Ammeter is an Alberta Canola rep on the board and the farm group’s other two reps are also serving on the executive — Roger Chevraux from Killam is vice-chair and Andre Harpe from Valhalla Centre is treasurer.

That duo is doing double duty: Chevraux is also vice-chair of Alberta Canola while Harpe is the new chair of the Grain Growers of Canada. Ammeter succeeds SaskCanola director Bernie McClean.

The Canadian Canola Growers Association focuses on policy development and lobbying government.
