Crop insurance claims being made a priority

Ensuring outstanding crop insurance claims on unharvested acres are processed prior to seeding is one of three top priorities that Alberta Wheat and Alberta Barley are focusing on in discussions with government officials, the two farm groups say.

In an April 27 update, the cereal commissions said Agriculture Financial Services Corporation “has been implementing its expedited process for pre-harvest inspections and it is reportedly going smoothly.”

About half of wildlife claims had been processed, they said. AFSC has also extended the enrolment deadline for AgriStability to July 3 (from April 30 previously).

“Farmers experiencing losses are encouraged to apply for interim payments under AgriStability for more rapid support,” AFSC said.
