As of early December 2008, 13 Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development offices opened to the public and are available to help farmers access information. “There are now four additional offices across the province providing service for the agriculture community,” says Betty Birch, communications co-ordinator, Ag-Info Centre, Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, Stettler.
Offices are now open in Airdrie, Barrhead, Brooks, Camrose, Fairview, Grande Prairie, Leduc, Lethbridge, Olds, Red Deer, Stettler, Stony Plain and Vermilion. These offices have administrative staff available to find information and assist people, whether they walk in or call in.
“Ag-Info staff can help connect clients to the appropriate department people, programs and resources,” says Birch. “They provide access to the Alberta Agriculture website and information by printing forms or factsheets, they can direct people to specialists and the expertise available, and they can provide assistance with programs.”
Department publications are also still available by contacting the Publications Office toll-free at 1-800-292-5697, and many of Alberta Agriculture’s publications are available online at www.agriculture.alberta.ca/publications.
Office hours at Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development offices are 8:15 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. Offices are closed over the noon hour.
“Albertans looking for the address, phone number or the name of the staff person at the nearest office are welcome to call the Ag-Info Centre toll-free at 310-FARM (3276) or click Spotlight on the website home page,” says Birch.
